Haiti earthquake survivors need your help now! Please send donations to the following organizations: SERRV International, Save the Children and OXFAM America
27 January 2010 - According to Red Cross, the 7.0-magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti has affected 3 million people. The earthquake has left an aftermath of devastation. There is lack of food and water for the survivors.
Associated Press reports on 26 January: 1 million rendered homeless, another 1 million children who are unaccompanied, orphaned or lost one parent, 2 million who need food aid but there are only 400,000 people receiving food aid, 700,000 to 800,000 living in makeshift camps, more figures HERE .
Children survivors face grim reality and in need of immediate assistance. Save the Children is worried about the safety and prospects of these children. “They are extremely vulnerable,” said Kate Conradt, a spokeswoman for the aid group Save the Children.
Fair Trade organizations rally for Haiti
Several Fair Trade Organizations have set up relief support program for Haiti quake victims. They are donating money from the sale of Fair Trade products to Haiti relief efforts. Some of them are selling products produced by Haitian artisans.
Unite-Fair Trade Market, for example, will donate 100% of proceeds from the sale of their Organic Cotton Unity Tees to Oxfam America.
